Ventana has been selected to design, manufacture, and install the exterior wall systems at the 17-story tall adult outpatient facility at Virginia Commonwealth University. The project is located in the downtown VCU Health Medical College of Virginia Campus and will serve as a gateway building to the campus. The facility will house multidisciplinary clinics, VCU Massey Cancer Center’s outpatient services, and the VCU School of Dentistry clinics.

The exterior skin consists of punched openings, flat curtain wall, saw-toothed curtain wall, as well as glass guardrails. Ventana’s seven inch deep MWS-180 system will be used for the punched openings and the flat curtain wall. For the saw-toothed wall, a ten inch deep, custom system will be used in order to accommodate for the faceted wall that adds a unique feature to the building. The project materials are sourced and fabricated in China. Ventana’s unitized curtain wall systems will be fabricated by Hanart Façade Specialist in Shanghai, China and the high-performing glass is provided by SYP (Shanghai Yaohua Pilkington Glass Group). The 148,000-square-foot project features 1-1/16 inch thick clear, insulated glass units with a double low-E coating that is applied on the number two surface for enhanced solar performance. The outboard lites are 5/16 inch thick in lieu of the 1/4 inch outboard lites typically seen; this will give the glass a flatter appearance.
